Shantideva - Introduction to the Path to Awakening (Bodhicharyavatara)
Translated by Tomáš Gutmann (prev. Dhammadípa)
Language: czech
Publisher: DharmaGaia
The Indian Buddhist philosopher and poet Shantideva (8th century), who worked at the famous Buddhist university of Nalanda, is considered one of the most influential thinkers of the Madhyamaka school of philosophy. He is still revered in Tibet as a Mahayana saint and Tantric siddha
His didactic poem Bodhicharyavatara (Introduction to the Path to Awakening) represents one of the most important and most translated texts on the theory and practice of Mahayana Buddhism. In Tibet, this book over time became a standard textbook with detailed instructions for the bodhisattva's altruistic practice, especially the development of the awakened mind (bodhicitta). The current 14th Dalai Lama also commented on this text, often uses it when explaining the doctrine and quotes from it a lot.
The book is published with an extensive commentary by the translator, Czech Buddhist monk Dhammadípa. An introductory study about the author and Mahayana Buddhism was written by the English Buddhist Paul Williams, afterword by Jiří Holba.
